Introduction
We all want to live lives that stand the test of time, don’t we? We want to live lives that at the end, we’re finishing strong. We’re still growing and still learning rather than having our best days be at the very beginning of our lives, and slowly fall a part. So the question that I want to consider today is…What are some things that we need to look at? What are some questions we need to ask ourselves if we’re going to live lives that last? Lives that carry us through to the end. And when we take a look at that, we really need to acknowledge that it’s the things that are on the inside that matter because on the outside, things look great. But there can be things on the inside that need attention.
In the Book of I Samuel, let’s examine the life of a man by the name of Saul. Saul was the first king of Israel. In fact, up to that point, Israel was directed by Judges, but kings from this point on would rule the nation of Israel. It’s important to know that Saul was chosen by God to be king. He was 30 years old when he came to a place of power and he ruled as king for 42 years. 42 years he was king. On the outside, he had a lot of things going for him. He was tall. He was handsome. He was seemingly modest. He was a capable military leader…but his life ended tragically.
